New science center in old Power House

Awhile back, as this project was getting started, I was contacted about helping reproduce (not restore) the cartouche above the old entrance. The original sculptures were too far gone to restore, which is an historical process way beyond my ability or certification.

3D scans were created from the original sculptures, in preparation of removing them, knowing that the old pieces would disintegrate. Unfortunately, the scans of the architectural foam were pretty crude. My job is to add a specialty cement to the surfaces in order to accurately recreate what was there before. I’m just doing the figures. The subcontractor is reproducing the rest.

The faces, heads, and belts are the most difficult. Especially the faces. As of today, it’s the faces that remain to be completed, with the guidance of historians, along with refining surfaces.
